This project was the first project by wissel architectuur studio.

Located on a slope in Kluisbergen, the Belle Époque villa was in a very poor state. There was no defined entrance or entrance zone; the house was accessed from the rear. The staircase was also missing, while the foundations urgently needed reinforcement as the house was at risk of subsiding.

A historical photograph showed that the villa once had a beautiful terrace. With a very limited budget, we did not aim to reconstruct it, but to reinterpret it through a new concrete base. This base stabilises and supports the existing house while creating a new entrance, a polyvalent outdoor space and a terrace above. It also accommodates a new staircase connecting the entrance to the existing house.

The intervention is deliberately raw and robust, while its character comes from the precision of its detailing. The construction is kept clear and honest: the structure remains visible, the materials become the finish, and the simple framework allows the spaces to adapt to the client’s needs over time.
