atelier naninga, brussels

We created a small artist’s studio tucked into the backyard of a classic Brussels row house. The client wanted a cozy, light-filled space facing the garden where she could work on her illustrations. It’s a simple structure with just one façade, built with the same thought and care as a piece of furniture.
Five timber frames are placed as façade elements and act as the main structure for the roof. On both outer edges the frames are used as doors, the middle three are fixed windows. The roofbeams supported by the frames extend beyond the façade, offering protection. Inside, the timber structure is left exposed. In contrast, the exterior frames are painted to provide durability and further weather resistance. A new, concrete terrace completes the project, creating a seamless connection between the studio and the surrounding garden.
