sint geertruibos house, holsbeek

This new house in Holsbeek is designed to respond to the steep slope and the existing forest on the site. To protect the tree roots, a steel structure elevates the house, allowing the forest to extend right up to the building. The ground floor is partially recessed and accommodates the entrance, storage space, a carport, technical installations, and a rainwater system. The first floor contains the main living areas, kitchen, and a bedroom, while the upper level includes a second bedroom and a study. The form of the house is shaped by its orientation: the open façade faces south, while the surrounding forest acts as a natural buffer against direct sunlight. The design carefully preserves the existing trees and integrates the house into the natural topography, creating a home that connects seamlessly with its surroundings.
