This 19th-century rowhouse in Berchem, Antwerp, underwent a complete top-to-bottom renovation. The goal was to preserve and enhance the original character of the house while improving comfort, natural light and the connection to the garden. Our main addition was the introduction of a ‘concrete table’, which supports the valuable bathroom volume on the first floor and allowed us to eliminate the volumes beneath it.

This intervention created an opportunity to reorganize the ground-floor layout and enabled us to create a sequence of four rooms. This spatial sequence brings light throughout the entire ground-floor plan and connects the two original rooms with two new spaces in the rear extension. The concrete table also made it possible to add a large, north-facing glass roof, which brings natural light deep into the heart of the home.
